Retention works for the Atrium project
Project
The NGE geotechnical and safety contracting works teams carried out retention works for the Atrium project; an 8-storey office block above a 5-level basement car park. Their proposal was a 62 cm thick, 22 m deep diaphragm wall, stabilised by two levels of props to support a height of approximately 15 metres.

Challenges
ChalleNGE : Given the size of the excavation – up to 40 m wide – the fabrication of a temporary pre-cast metal column was required to limit the prop spans to approximately 30 m.
