Eiffage and NGE won lot 2 of the Toulouse’s third metro line

Eiffage and NGE has been awarded in consortium by Tisséo the contract to carry out the civil engineering works for the tunnels, stations and structures on new Line C of the Toulouse metro between the Laporte ancillary structure and Raynal station (lot 2). The total amount of the contract is worth almost €590 million (Eiffage’s share: 65%; NGE’s share: 35%).

The consortium, led by Eiffage through its subsidiary Eiffage Génie Civil, will be responsible for carrying out the studies and construction of a 8.416 kilometers tunnel, six stations, five related intersection structures and a specific tunnel connected to the maintenance area. The contract also encompasses construction of nine safety galleries connecting shafts to the tunnel.

Various advanced new techniques will be used for the project, including two next-generation tunnel boring machines and fibre-reinforced concrete segments using less steel in 95% of the project, manufactured on its own by the consortium thanks to a new plant in the Toulouse area. Lastly, the Carasol^® soil analysis technique, developed by Eiffage, will be implemented. This technique takes just two hours to analyze excavated materials rather than the 3–5 days with traditional methods, reducing temporary storage and thus trucks rotation.

To curb the project’s impact on the local community, the consortium will implement numerous measures reducing nuisance caused by the works and restricting third-party activities and movements. As part of its environmental commitments, the consortium aims to recover close to 90% of the excavated material. It has also given undertakings to reduce the project’s carbon footprint through the use of primarily renewable energy, clean vehicles, eco-designed and low-consumption installations, etc.

The project will involve up to 1,000 people and includes 195,000 hours under access-to-employment programs with the creation of 150 to 200 new jobs. It will start from spring 2023 following a 3-month preparatory period. Handover of the infrastructure is scheduled for in late 2025, before development and equipment installation works, in perspective of the Line C commissioning in 2028.
